White Fillings

White Fillings

A FILLING THAT MIMICS THE APPEARANCE OF A TOOTH

As dentists we believe prevention is always better than cure and will always encourage and help you to look after your teeth so you don’t develop tooth decay in the first place.

When you attend Hermitage Clinic for a new patient examination or routine check up, your dentist will carry out a detail assessment, looking for signs of decay or fractures within the teeth.

When your tooth shows signs of decay, our dentist at Hermitage Clinic can help to stop it before any further damage is caused. Fillings are applied to small and developing cavities to restore your tooth back to its original shape and prevent any further decay.

Direct Composite White fillings

Direct Composite White fillings

There are a number of different materials that can be used to fill a hole in your tooth. These range from the traditional silver metal (amalgam) fillings to composite resin which is tooth coloured or even gold and porcelain.

  • Direct fillings are those that can be applied in one sitting. If you do have decay and need a filling that can be done directly, we often recommend dental composite (white fillings) as a good solution that is both aesthetic and functional. These type of fillings are placed by your dentist and finished chairside in the practice to give instant results with high strength and excellent aesthetics.
  • We have been using the tooth coloured, composite resin materials for many years now as this material bonds with the dentine and enamel in the tooth structure. This allows the composite filling material to add strength to the tooth. Our dentists follow a specific protocol to build up the filling in multiple layers to shape and restore a tooth to mimic its natural form. This is part of our minimally invasive approach to dental treatment at Hermitage Clinic.
  • If the decay is more extensive or more of the tooth structure is damaged, an inlay, onlay, or crown may be a more suitable option. These can also be made in different materials based on individual circumstances.

Should you require a filling, your dentist at Hermitage Clinic will discuss with you the different options available and best advice on the most suitable treatment for you and your teeth.
